Peter Agre: My Life in Science
On March 12, 2006, Chemistry Nobel Laureate Peter Agre came to Charlotte for a three day visit as the guest of Carolinas Medical Center and physician Andrew Asimos. During his visit to Charlotte, Professor Agre was kind enough to spend some time with The Echo Foundation and agreed to participate in educational activities coordinated by Echo. Scheduled events included a two hour Student Dialogue with 52 well prepared, top science students and their teachers from seven area high schools, and an exceptional presentation by Professor Agre entitled “My Life in Science,” which was followed by students’ wide-ranging questions.
Later in the day, The Echo Foundation convened at Foundation For The Carolinas for the Forum For Hope, Echo’s adult leadership initiative, in which 22 leaders in the field of science education from Charlotte to Brevard engaged with Professor Agre in a discussion focused on the challenges and responses to the science crisis in America today.
