Students at Nkondo School

Echo in Rwanda

As part of its growing investment in the Nkondo 1 Primary School in Rwinkwavu, Rwanda, The Echo Foundation has developed a new program that maintains a permanent presence at the school.

Entitled ECHO in Rwanda: Empowering Youth through Education, the program focuses upon teaching English at the Primary 1 level (akin to Kindergarten) and devising other avenues through which to empower the school. So far, Program Coordinator Myles Wynn has created programming that provides computer lessons for the teachers, created a health club for the students, and advocates on the school’s behalf with other agencies and organizations in Rwanda. Additionally, an English library has been built and furnished at the school.

A public government school with 1,200 students, Nkondo 1 faces immense difficulties due to the steep poverty of the community. Despite these challenges, however, the students and teachers possess an inspiring determination to fashion a better future for themselves, and Echo looks forward to working together as partners for many years to come.
